You press the water pipes of a heat pump just as easily as a central heating system: no soldering, no open flame and watertight. Here you can see which pipe size you need, which profile matches your fittings and which press jaw set fits.

Why press fittings for a heat pump?
No open flame: no fire risk at the outdoor unit, in a plant room or under a wooden floor.
Fast: a press joint takes a few seconds, even on large sizes like 28 mm copper or 32 mm multilayer.
Watertight and solid: the joint can be pressurised straight after pressing.
Works on copper, stainless steel, carbon steel and multilayer pipe, so also when connecting to existing heating.

Why one size up from a gas boiler? A heat pump runs with a small difference between flow and return, about 5 degrees against 20 for a boiler. So roughly four times as much water has to circulate. Too thin and the pump gets noisy, misses its output or cuts out. The exact size is in the installation manual of your heat pump.
Which press profile?
Copper, stainless and carbon steel: V (Viega, Sanha, VSH Sudopress and others) or M (Geberit Mapress, VSH XPress and others).
Multilayer pipe: TH (Henco, Bonfix, Comap and others) or U (VSH MultiPress, Wavin Tigris M and others). Uponor S-Press Plus needs UP.
The fitting decides which profile you need. It is usually printed on the fitting or the packaging.
Which set do you need?
Every set has 1 press jaw and 19 inserts with TH, V, U and M, up to 28 mm copper and 32 mm multilayer. Which set you need depends on your press machine: Standard (32 kN) €345, Compact (19 kN) €345 or Standard Mini (15 kN) €395. The UP profile for Uponor S-Press Plus is €50 extra. Honest up front: 35 mm copper and 40 mm multilayer are not in the set. For a heat pump up to about 10 kW, which covers most homes, you have everything.
Choose the brand and system of your fitting and you see right away which profile you need.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, for the water pipes: flow and return to the heating, the underfloor heating or the buffer tank. A split heat pump also has refrigerant lines between the indoor and outdoor unit; those need a certified refrigeration engineer and dedicated refrigerant fittings, and are not covered by this set.
Usually 28 mm copper or 32 mm multilayer for the connection and main pipes, and one size up above about 10 kW: 35 mm copper or 40 mm multilayer. The exact size is in the installation manual.
No. The set goes up to 28 mm copper (V28 and M28) and 32 mm multilayer (TH32 and U32). That covers most domestic heat pumps, up to about 10 kW.
That depends on your fittings, not on the heat pump. Copper is usually pressed with V or M, multilayer with TH or U. All four are in the set; UP for Uponor S-Press Plus is an add-on.
There are three sets: Standard for 32 kN machines (Novopress ACO 202/203, REMS Power-Press, Rothenberger Romax and others), Compact for 19 kN (Milwaukee M12, Novopress ACO 102 and others) and Standard Mini for Klauke MAP1/MAP2. Not sure? Email brand and model to [email protected].
